Requirements
  • A master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders, or a similarly titled area consistent and acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Possess or be eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or be eligible to participate as an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Clinical Fellow in select markets.
  • Be licensed, certified, or credentialed as required in the state of practice.
  • Hold a current CPR certification.
  • Hold an Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License.
  • Have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have effective leadership and client relationship skills.
  • Exercise mature judgment and initiative when analyzing and solving problems.
  • Maintain professional attitudes and respect for the school and its staff.
  • Treat all students with dignity, compassion, empathy, and respect.
  • Use effective organizational skills to manage high-volume caseloads.
Responsibilities
  • Serve students ages 3–21 with communication, feeding, and/or developmental challenges in a school-based environment.
  • Implement treatment plans focused on functional and measurable outcomes for sharing with the school and/or supervisors, as mandated in students’ Individualized Education Plans.
  • Consult with teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, primary care providers, and other treatment-team professionals to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive therapy team.
  • Assess and document each student’s progress through formal and informal tests and measurements.
  • Write and prepare annual review reports and goals for each student in accordance with Individualized Education Plan dates and requirements and state guidelines.
  • Attend scheduled school-related meetings, including triennials, annual reviews, domains, referrals, Individualized Education Plan meetings, and pre-Individualized Education Plan meetings.
  • Provide screenings and evaluations to determine the need for skilled school-based speech-language pathology intervention based on each client’s level of function, including expressive and receptive language, feeding, overall communication, and augmentative communication device needs.
