David Energy provides a software platform that manages and optimizes distributed energy resources like solar panels, battery storage, and smart thermostats for commercial buildings. The platform works by connecting these devices to electricity markets, using real-time data to automate energy buying and participation in demand response programs. Unlike traditional energy providers, this system integrates supply contracts with direct device control to lower costs and ensure regulatory compliance without requiring upfront payments. The company's goal is to help building owners reduce their carbon footprint and save money through transparent, data-driven energy management.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Wonder deployed batteries at 21 NYC locations on August 10, 2026.
  • Latitude Media reported roughly 100 customers since January 2026 and over 250 contracted locations.
  • David Energy earmarked 2,000 sites and installed over 500 batteries, signaling rapid operations scaling.

What critics are saying

  • Consumer-grade batteries invite fire, code, and landlord objections; one incident kills rollout momentum.
  • The model depends on Con Edison CSRP, DLRP, and tariff arbitrage in New York.
  • If New York rules tighten on behind-the-meter batteries, David Energy loses its core wedge.

What makes David Energy unique

  • David Energy bundles retail supply, software, and batteries into one zero-capex contract.
  • It guarantees lower bills with plug-in batteries, not just analytics or advisory software.
  • Its 120-volt deployments bypass interconnection queues and accelerate behind-the-meter commercialization.

David Energy installs free plug-in batteries at 21 Wonder NYC locations to cut energy costs

David Energy has partnered with Wonder to install free plug-in batteries at 21 Wonder locations across New York City. The 120-volt batteries charge when electricity is cheap and discharge during expensive periods, saving Wonder thousands of dollars annually per location compared to utility costs. Wonder operates 140 locations across the Northeast using all-electric kitchens. The batteries required minimal installation effort and operational changes whilst reducing peak demand on the grid. The companies are now collaborating on back-of-house designs for new 2027 Wonder locations in New York City to optimise battery placement. David Energy is the only energy supplier offering businesses free batteries to guarantee lower monthly power bills compared to traditional utilities.
