Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing assistant.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of building relationships with physicians, direct reports and key staff.
  • Moderate to advanced computer literacy and skills.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of medical, financial, employee, computer and other sensitive materials in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Maintain a current CPR provider card.
  • Maintain professional certifications or licensure in active status.
  • Practice within the guidelines and scope of a certified nursing assistant.
  • Comply with University of Miami, hospital and department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Observe and report patients’ status and needs.
  • Obtain weights, vital signs, and specimens, report results, and transport specimens to the designated department.
  • Operate equipment safely, alert registered nurse team members to emergencies or changes in patient status, and gather equipment for emergency patient care when requested.
  • Demonstrate age-specific competencies and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Apply aseptic technique; operate required equipment; initiate decontamination; care for specialty items; verify sterilization dates and package integrity; clean and disinfect instruments, trays, and scopes; and perform sterilization activities.
  • Perform and interpret biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators; complete sterilization documentation; maintain sterile inventory; identify instruments and supplies; receive and dispatch instruments and supplies; report equipment requiring repair; and maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Check rooms daily and supply rooms as needed.
  • Perform clinical and clerical functions for the assigned unit, including faxing, copying, mailing, typing, answering and routing telephone calls, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Implement preventative measures for patients with safety risks, including falls.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, consultations, laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, operating room services, and radiation treatments as ordered.
  • Retrieve and print diagnostic studies and next-day schedules.
  • Process charges, order stockroom supplies, maintain supplies and forms, and collect mail daily.
  • Attend mandatory in-services, maintain continuing education documentation, and seek training to maintain competencies.
  • Support performance improvement activities and communicate effectively with the manager and interdisciplinary team.
  • Address patient, physician, and visitor complaints and refer unresolved issues to managers.
  • Report to work as scheduled, serve as a mentor and role model, and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of recent experience.
  • Ambulatory experience.
