Requirements
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED plus one year of experience as a laborer or in a similar utility maintenance field.
  • A current and valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be available for evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, standby, overtime, and work during inclement weather when operationally required.
  • Must maintain appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License instruction permit within six months of employment and a Class A Commercial Driver's License with air-brake and tanker endorsements within nine months of employment.
  • Must pass mandatory drug testing because the position is safety-sensitive.
  • Must be able to lift heavy articles weighing approximately 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to understand written and verbal directions and instructions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform manual labor, including hand excavation and movement of heavy items, for construction, maintenance, and repair of sanitary sewer lines and mains.
  • Check and clean sanitary sewer manholes, laterals, mains, and related components.
  • Assist the Crew Leader with entering or researching data on a laptop or tablet in the field.
  • Work occasionally in confined spaces.
  • Maintain personal protective equipment.
  • Operate motor vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Use basic hand tools and perform common maintenance and manual labor tasks.
  • Assist crew members with loading and unloading materials and equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining or repairing sanitary sewer systems.
  • Experience with hand tools and construction equipment.
  • Experience in utility construction, including plumbing, pipe fitting, or excavation.
  • Experience with computerized work-order and mapping systems.
  • Experience working outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Experience working with others in a team environment.
