ERG is seeking an experienced civil engineer to independently develop mechanical designs for renovations and upgrades to existing buildings at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland. This position will be full-time at the federal site in Indian Head, MD, and will include interaction and support from ERG personnel at the federal site, as well as from ERG’s Chantilly and Arlington offices. Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC. Alternative work schedules may be considered. ERG is seeking mechanical engineers with experience supporting operations and maintenance of building mechanical equipment such as HVAC, pumps, compressors, and blowers.
This position is located at a federal site in Indian Head, MD, and will involve working closely with teams of engineers and technicians who support a large campus with a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment.

Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA. Alternative work schedules may be considered.
Job Description:
- Plan, implement, or monitor preventative maintenance programs (e.g., inspections, testing, and maintenance) that comply with federal and local requirements and industry codes, standards, and guidelines
- Provide engineering support toward documenting and/or troubleshooting operational issues with mechanical equipment
- Identify and work to proactively resolve any compliance issues
- Identify and document potential capital improvement projects necessary to improve operations by conducting site visits to document existing conditions, developing new requirements based on planned use, and creating preliminary scopes or budgetary cost estimates
- Perform mechanical design reviews for facility improvement projects provided by third-party or in-house design efforts
- Assess compliance of design packages with applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), codes, and regulations as well as end-user requirements
- Knowledge and experience working with related equipment and systems such as HVAC, pumps, compressors, and blowers
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other stakeholders, internal and external
- Serve as a project manager on some assigned projects
Qualifications and Skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (minimum GPA of 3.0)
- A Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred but not required
- At least eight years of experience with a mechanical engineering degree or at least ten years of relevant experience and a degree in another engineering discipline
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate/communicate effectively with internal/external stakeholders
- Excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
- Experience working with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Ability to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Experience with Process Control Systems such as programmable logic controller (PLC) ladder logic and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming is a plus
- Specific experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens systems is a plus
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge to apply engineering skills toward process equipment, facility operations, and maintenance
