Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school, or at least one year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient-care setting, is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Certification must be maintained.
  • Employees hired after January 1, 2015, must maintain current certification or registration within six months of hire as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from the National Healthcareer Association, Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants, or Clinical Medical Assistant Certification from the American Medical Certification Association.
  • The Medical Assistant must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of assigned patients.
  • The Medical Assistant must demonstrate awareness of medical and legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • The Medical Assistant must maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance and comply with applicable Orlando Health policies and federal, state, and local standards.
Responsibilities
  • The Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction and supervision of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory care setting.
  • The Medical Assistant participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process-improvement activities.
  • The Medical Assistant communicates professionally with patients and family members and collaborates with administrative and operations staff.
  • The Medical Assistant gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
  • The Medical Assistant assists patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • The Medical Assistant assists the physician during examinations and procedures.
  • The Medical Assistant performs specific practice-defined tasks and skills competently.
  • The Medical Assistant provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types.
  • The Medical Assistant documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
  • The Medical Assistant acts as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing or physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
  • The Medical Assistant processes incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging. The facility offers advanced treatments including bispecific therapies and clinical trial participation, with plans to expand outpatient cell therapy programmes. Six board-certified medical oncologists and haematologists, supported by four advanced practice practitioners, provide care through a collaborative, patient-centred model. The opening represents a hospital-specialty collaboration aimed at bringing complex therapies closer to patients' homes. FCS operates six other locations in Pinellas County and has delivered oncology care in Florida for over 40 years.
