Requirements
  • An M.D. or D.O. degree is required.
  • Zero to one year of experience as an M.D. is required, including successful completion of residency at an accredited healthcare institution.
  • The physician must be able to provide diagnostic, treatment, and counseling services.
  • The physician must be able to analyze situations and take effective action.
  • A current valid license or certification to practice medicine in Nevada is required.
  • An unrestricted DEA certificate with a Nevada address is required.
  • Current board certification in the specialty area is required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A valid Nevada Board of Pharmacy license is required.
  • USC credentialing from the governing board must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
  • Fire Life Safety Training is required within 30 days of hire if the applicant does not have a card, with renewal before expiration.
  • The physician must possess confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and manage direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for a specified patient population.
  • Provide health education and preventive medical care where appropriate.
  • Take adequate patient histories for medical problems, maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Counsel patients on medical, psychological, personal, and health-related matters and provide medical treatment where appropriate.
  • Refer patients for medical or other treatment when appropriate.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Refer patients to specialists and relevant patient-care components as appropriate, including partnering with Counseling Services staff for patients with mental health problems.
  • Review histories, examinations, and treatment plans prepared by physician assistants and nurse practitioners and function in a supervisory role as needed.
  • Follow departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality-improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection-control standards.
  • Participate in specified health-promotion, education, and prevention programs as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional affiliations, licenses, and certifications and remain current on developments in medicine.
  • Cover after-hours calls as needed.
  • Manage patients with chronic controlled and uncontrolled comorbidities.
  • Collaborate with care-coordination staff to oversee multidisciplinary care with various low-risk specialists.
  • Manage transitions of care for patients with multiple low-risk hospitalizations.
  • Work with the contracted utilization-management company regarding patients with complex diagnoses and refer high-risk patients to appropriate specialty services, including assistance managing home-health needs.
  • Perform other related and assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as an M.D. is preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish ability is preferred, including the ability to understand and communicate with Spanish-speaking individuals.
