Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of relevant work experience (or a Master’s degree) in economics, public policy, engineering, or a related discipline with strong quantitative skills and an outstanding academic record
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Very strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently and to apply a variety of technical skills and innovative thinking to solve problems
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects concurrently under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis and modeling approaches and scripting software (e.g., R, Stata, Python)
  • Demonstrated skills (through employment or academic coursework) in the following areas: the federal rulemaking process; policy and regulatory analysis methods; working with economic, environmental, and/or survey data; federal environmental, natural resource, and transportation safety regulations
  • Prior consulting experience is highly desirable
Responsibilities
  • As Economics Analyst, you will provide applied research and consulting services in support of national-level programs focused primarily on addressing a range of transportation safety, environmental, and natural resources management issues.
  • You will provide a wide range of support services to improve the effectiveness of regulatory and non-regulatory programs, and assess their costs, benefits, and economic impacts.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing information from rulemaking documents, literature, or other technical reports to support program design or implementation.
  • Performing cost-benefit, statistical/econometrics, or other quantitative analyses to assess industry response to changing regulatory requirements.
  • Developing analytical methods, databases, and models (e.g., in Excel, R) to quantify costs, benefits, or other regulatory impacts.
  • Drafting and editing federal agency rulemaking documents.
  • Providing other general program support.
