Requirements
  • Current State of Illinois EMT-P license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Ability to provide care to pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical and environmental tasks under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Treat patients and families respectfully while protecting patient rights, safety, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Work cooperatively with employees and adapt to changing workload demands and priorities.
  • Follow National Patient Safety Goals and applicable safety standards; report hazards, near misses, and errors.
  • Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based activities, data collection, and quality improvement teams as applicable.
  • Communicate with the Clinical Coordinator or designee regarding assigned duties.
  • Prioritize duties based on patient and unit needs under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide individualized and culturally appropriate patient and family care.
  • Implement individualized plans of care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Function as a Patient Safety Observer when needed.
  • Maintain a safe patient and work environment.
  • Obtain patient data and document all care in the appropriate patient care record.
  • Perform routine procedures, treatments, specimen collections, and delegated phlebotomy.
  • Assist with patient admission, discharge, and transport.
  • Transport laboratory specimens and obtain blood products as needed.
  • Order, organize, clean, and restock supplies according to unit specifications.
  • Retrieve medications from the tube system for the Registered Nurse.
  • Access designated supply rooms, automated medication dispensing stations, and crash carts as applicable; obtain needed supplies and restock supply cabinets within the authorized scope.
  • Use telephone and patient call systems and selected unit equipment.
  • Monitor patients' cardiac rhythms and telemetry alarms, and promptly report abnormal rate or rhythm variations to the Registered Nurse.
  • Document care in real time at the point of care.
  • Insert and remove IV saline locks.
  • Communicate pertinent information throughout the shift and to the oncoming shift.
  • Recognize knowledge deficits and seek appropriate resources to resolve them.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support certification.
  • Bilingual Spanish abilities.
