CF is seeking a Biomedical Curator to support the National Library of Medicine (NLM), User Services and Collection Division (USCD) which collects by selecting, acquiring, and preserving biomedical collections. USCD curates by cataloging, indexing, processing, creating metadata, and promoting standards. USCD connects by delivering NLM products and services to a diverse global audience directly and through our partners. The Biomedical Curator will support indexing quality control. This is a full-time remote position working with the NLM team. This individual will require an NIH badge to access the NLM system and will need to complete all training.
Responsibilities
In support of MeSH indexing quality control and clean-up, the staff will:
- Construct PubMed searches to identify citations with missing or incorrect publication types or other headings.
- Review lists of citations identified as potentially requiring specific indexing corrections.
- Submit lists of affected PMIDs (PubMed unique identifiers) as batch correction requests
- Manually make corrections in PMDM (PubMed Data Management System)
Work to support quality assurance, systems management, and/or data analysis for the section, which may include but not limited to:
- Importing data from spreadsheets into SharePoint tables
- Creating PubMed queries for comprehensive retrieval of specific concepts and annotating the results, to generate training data for Machine Learning
- Collecting and integrating data from Jira, SharePoint, and other sources; using it to create tables and charts.
Attend meetings with internal and client staff to plan tasks.
Provide information and contribute to monthly and annual reporting requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, biomedical science, or a related field OR High school diploma and 9+ years of experience with biomedical vocabulary, principles, and facts
- 3+ years of experience with reading and summarizing formal biomedical literature on diverse biomedical topics such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, genetics, biochemistry, and health care practices.
- 3+ years of experience analyzing and organizing biomedical vocabulary according to the relationships between the terms.
- 3+ years of experience with a biomedical database (preferably PubMed)
- 3+ years of experience annotating scientific citations with appropriate terms from a controlled vocabulary (preferably MeSH)
- 3+ years experience in constructing complex queries (preferably in PubMed) using advanced search features, including Boolean operators, search fields and search filters.
- Ability to annotate bibliographic citations to the scientific literature with appropriate terms from a controlled vocabulary.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of biomedical databases (especially PubMed/MEDLINE) and database search skills
- Use and administration of Jira, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams
- Mid-level data analysis in Excel, such as:
Importing and exporting text and csv files
Pivot tables
Formulas
Charts
Conditional formatting
Professional Skills:
- Strong communication skills including ability to collaborate with management, technical and scientific staff to accomplish projects and tasks.
- Ability to quickly and independently educate oneself on unfamiliar biomedical concepts and terminology.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$71,958.00 - $122,328.00Maryland Remote Office (MD99)
