Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Assists providers during exams under general direction from Nursing Leadership.
  • Performs a variety of clinical tasks in support of patient care in outpatient clinics involving technical, procedural and information systems tasks.
  • Applies clinical knowledge while assisting provider during exam and anticipates provider needs.
  • Attaches patient to diagnostic and medical equipment including dynamap, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor and pneumatic tourniquet.
  • Provides information, comfort and care to patient during the exam and explains next steps, systems and status.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment are readily available for smooth operations and patient safety and provides discharge instructions.
  • Ensures correct number and type of supplies are available in each exam room and equipment is available per provider preference.
  • Maintains efficient room utilization and minimizes patient wait time.
  • Escorts patients from waiting area to exam areas, obtains vital signs, performs diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order and accurately labels, logs and processes specimens according to protocol.
  • Enters patient data, condition and care given into electronic medical record system and performs administrative duties including scheduling and registration.
  • Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels, reorders, stocks, cleans, conducts inventory, monitors expiration dates, reconciles orders and tracks utilization for cost trends.
  • Makes recommendations to decrease cost in use of equipment and supplies and coordinates with purchasing department when products are on back order.
  • Implements standard infection prevention measures and monitors practices for breaches, suggesting corrections.
  • With registered nurse oversight, precepts new employees to the area and ensures competence.
  • May assist providers as a surgical procedure assistant, prepares room and instrumentation, provides standard instruction to patient, anticipates needs, and prepares specimens for lab; sets up sterile fields, preps instrument tray, sterilizes instruments, prepares specimens in preservative medium, labels and logs correctly, and reviews discharge instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
