Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field, or an associate's degree in one of those fields and two years of experience as a TRIO Academic Coach.
  • One to two years of experience in TRIO, Student Support Services, Student Affairs, or similar programs targeting veteran students.
  • Demonstrable familiarity with military experiences.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • A valid Florida Class E driver's license and authorization to drive for the college are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant position software programs.
  • Ability to analyze information and problems, interpret data, establish facts, identify issues, develop recommendations, evaluate outcomes, and select appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, diplomatically, empathetically, and tactfully.
  • Ability to make well-reasoned and timely decisions based on objective review and analysis.
  • Ability to respond promptly and courteously to students and faculty, including students with little or no computer skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, civility, and high ethical standards.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and organize tasks within established time frames.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator to identify, recruit, and select eligible program participants.
  • Provide ongoing academic and career advisement, coaching, and mentoring, including assistance with career paths, programs of study, classes, and college selection.
  • Facilitate academic guidance, tutoring, study skills development, financial assistance and literacy, and transfer pathways, including transfer applications and financial aid forms.
  • Track, monitor, and maintain accurate records of student academic progress through periodic transcript and materials checks.
  • Respond to at-risk reporting through student outreach, referral, and follow-up.
  • Facilitate supplemental instruction, including programming in Canvas.
  • Arrange transfer and cultural visits and develop resources for program students.
  • Assist the Coordinator with budget and program support responsibilities.
  • Partner with the Coordinator and applicable staff on project-evaluation research and provide assessment data for annual reports, consultant visits, and grant submissions.
  • Provide student outreach through class presentations, college events, and other initiatives, including occasional night or weekend commitments.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with college departments, the University of Florida, and community constituents.
  • Work with peers and internal departments to serve program students holistically.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field.
  • Maintain records of operating procedures and share position-specific knowledge, including collegewide enterprise resource planning and related system processes, by guiding standard operations and departmental procedures.
  • Participate in college events, committees, and other college activities.
  • Comply with college rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws and regulations governing public employees, including document retention, FERPA, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Protect the privacy, security, and confidentiality of records and sensitive information.
  • Provide courteous, informed, accessible, and professional service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in education, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field with three years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated success overcoming barriers similar to those faced by the project's target population or experience working with this population.
  • Experience in case management, educational advising, recordkeeping, documentation, and project evaluation.
  • Strong communication and technological skills.
