  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
  • Significant experience practicing management-side labor and employment law.
  • Demonstrated experience advising employers on both employment counseling and labor relations matters.
  • Demonstrated management-side labor relations experience, including advising on union-related matters, labor strategy, and proactive employee relations approaches designed to support a positive union-free environment, consistent with applicable law.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal and state labor and employment laws, including those relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, leave, accommodations, and labor relations.
  • Experience managing employment litigation, administrative charges, investigations, and other labor and employment matters in partnership with external counsel.
  • Proven ability to assess legal and reputational risk, provide practical legal advice, and influence business decisions in a collaborative and credible manner.
  • Experience partnering closely with Human Resources and training leaders on workplace law, compliance, and risk prevention.
  • Experience in an in-house legal department supporting a multi-state employer.
  • Experience advising on labor strategy, union campaigns, collective bargaining issues, grievance matters, and unfair labor practice claims.
  • Experience developing and delivering training for Human Resources teams, managers, and business leaders.
  • Experience supporting organizations with complex employee relations environments across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Deep substantive expertise in labor and employment law.
  • Excellent legal judgment, communication, and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, organizational, and project-management abilities.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor on all labor and employment matters affecting the organization.
  • Provide practical, timely, and business-focused legal counsel on employee relations, workplace policies and practices, performance management and discipline, hiring and terminations, reductions in force and reorganizations, wage and hour compliance, leave and accommodation matters, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, investigations, and other workplace risk matters.
  • Advise on labor relations matters, including union-related strategy, collective bargaining issues, grievances, labor disputes, and unfair labor practice matters.
  • Develop proactive labor strategies and provide guidance on employee relations approaches designed to support a positive union-free environment, consistent with applicable law.
  • Partner with Human Resources and HR Compliance to ensure employment practices, policies, and procedures are legally compliant, operationally sound, and aligned with business needs.
  • Conduct or oversee internal investigations involving employee complaints, workplace misconduct, and other sensitive employment matters, and advise on appropriate remediation.
  • Support and oversee responses to administrative charges, demand letters, litigation, arbitrations, and agency matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board, and applicable state or local agencies.
  • Manage outside counsel on employment and labor matters, including litigation, administrative proceedings, and specialized advisory matters, with an emphasis on strong outcomes and cost-effective case management.
  • Review, draft, and advise on employment-related policies, agreements, investigation materials, training content, and other workplace-related documentation.
  • Design and deliver training for Human Resources professionals, managers, and business leaders on labor and employment law topics, legal risk, and best practices.
  • Monitor developments in federal, state, and local labor and employment laws and translate those developments into actionable guidance for the organization.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Human Resources, Compliance, and business leadership to identify risk, support sound decision-making, and strengthen the organization’s employment and labor practices.
  • Operate as a trusted partner to Human Resources, HR Compliance, and business leaders.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice that balances risk and operational realities.
  • Proactively identify issues before they escalate into claims, disputes, or broader organizational risk.
  • Work effectively with external counsel while maintaining strong internal ownership of strategy and outcomes.
  • Help strengthen the organization’s employment practices, leader capability, compliance posture, and labor relations strategy.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with a national management-side labor and employment law firm is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting employers in the construction or energy industry is preferred.
