The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Economics seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics, starting in August 2026. This position will be responsible for teaching courses in macroeconomics, both principles and intermediate, on a regular basis. Other teaching responsibilities, depending on expertise, may include money & banking, statistics, and courses that contribute to the business analytics curricula. The department is open to candidates with a variety of macro-focused research agendas, areas of specialization, and methodological approaches.

Especially welcome are applicants who can bridge the gap between theory and practice, bring global perspectives to their teaching and research, and convey the importance of economics in a business environment. Applicants seeking a balance in teaching and research responsibilities will find a collegial work environment.

In-person, on-campus teaching and regular office hours are required. Depending on demand and expertise, teaching responsibilities may also include a limited number of online undergraduate courses.

The Wilson College of Business (business.uni.edu) is AACSB-accredited with separate accounting accreditation and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in five departments (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing & Entrepreneurship) along with MBA and MAcc degrees. The Wilson College has 49 full-time faculty and 52 staff and enrolls approximately 1,600 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students. The Department of Economics consists of 8 faculty members and around 70 undergraduate students majoring in the department. The department has a history of teaching excellence evidenced by the active engagement of our students. Faculty are committed to high-quality scholarship, are recognized in their fields, and support Wilson College's commitment to the teacher/scholar model. The department is known for its collegial and supportive environment in both scholarship and teaching, with opportunities for department seminars and collaboration. Our faculty are actively engaged and committed to the growth and continuous improvement of the Economics program in a collective, team-oriented effort to foster the success of its students.

Education Requirements:

Ph.D. in Economics from an AACSB-accredited university required. Economics ABDs are welcome to apply with an expected degree completion date by August 1, 2026. 

Required Qualifications:

Record of excellence in teaching; background in macroeconomics; demonstrated ability to produce publishable research in economics journals; and demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Stand-alone teaching experience; experience teaching principles of macroeconomics or intermediate macroeconomics at the undergraduate level; evidence of ability to create an engaged and applied classroom environment and evidence of ability to advance the academic, professional, and personal success of students preferred.
