Requirements
  • Possesses an active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing or a valid compact state license.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function strictly within the required nursing process as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and staff.
  • Applies analytical thinking to clinical information and uses sound logic to coordinate patient care within scheduling constraints and manage emergent requirements efficiently.
  • Meets all clinic training and competency requirements, particularly for advanced gastrointestinal procedures.
  • Holds an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
  • Has five years of professional nursing experience.
  • Holds a current Texas Registered Nurse license.
  • Holds Basic Life Support/CPR certification.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills in conducting patient physical assessments, coordinating complex medical testing, and communicating findings to physicians to support treatment plans.
  • Safely administers ordered medications and injections in compliance with clinic protocols and state regulations.
  • Performs specialized gastroenterology procedures, including anorectal manometry, esophageal manometry, Digitrapper, and PillCam, according to competency guidelines.
Responsibilities
  • Provides direct nursing care to patients in a healthcare facility.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physicians during patient treatment and examinations.
  • Coordinates patient care and manages emergent requirements within scheduling constraints.
  • Manages referrals, follow-up appointments, and diagnostic tests in collaboration with the assigned scheduler.
  • Triages patient calls and collaborates with call center team members to address patient needs.
  • Arranges paperwork and logistical details for hospital admissions as directed by the medical provider.
  • Follows up on diagnostic tests and laboratory results and promptly reports them to the medical provider.
  • Processes physician-ordered patient referrals to appropriate specialists in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Educates patients and family members about gastrointestinal diseases, procedure preparation, and ongoing care plans.
  • Performs and assists with specialized gastroenterology procedures.
  • Performs other nursing duties as assigned within the legal scope of professional nursing practice.
