Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid New York State driver's license and a driving record aligned with the College's motor vehicle policy.
  • Meet and maintain the requirements and training to be licensed and registered as a security guard in New York State.
  • Capability and willingness to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and in inclement weather.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime coverage when necessary or directed, including mandatory overtime and extracurricular campus events.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse residential and academic community and the general public.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in emergency situations.
  • Ability to respond to calls for service.
  • Reliability and ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and display sensitivity to the unique role security plays in a college setting.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including climbing stairs, crouching, walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct campus patrols by walking, fixed post, or vehicle.
  • Provide security services to assigned campus areas.
  • Develop and improve working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform traditional law enforcement duties typically assigned to security personnel.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and general security service requests from students, employees, and visitors.
  • Enforce Le Moyne College's rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ensure local, state, and federal laws and ordinances are enforced to protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Conduct thorough security checks of assigned areas and report security or safety issues that could lead to injury or safety concerns.
  • Conduct investigations and inquiries into incidents involving College policy violations, criminal offenses, or suspicious circumstances, and submit comprehensive written reports.
  • Correct or report observed safety, security, utility, environmental, and fire hazards to the appropriate College office.
  • Lock and unlock buildings and rooms as scheduled.
  • Provide unlocks and lock-ups as requested, including student and office key-ins.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of campus fire extinguishers.
  • Stay informed about all College activity.
  • Promote crime prevention and fire safety.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, including uniforms, vehicles, and personal hygiene.
  • Maintain the physical fitness necessary to perform the principal job functions.
  • Perform related security services and emergency or general duties as requested by the Director of Security or designee.
  • Maintain lost-and-found property.
  • Cover the dispatch desk and perform dispatch duties when assigned.
  • Participate in all required and assigned training.
  • Work assigned events.
  • Test blue light phones.
  • Provide transportation and escorts.
  • Conduct fire drills.
  • Strengthen digital literacy through education and the application of digital technologies for information gathering, utilization, and data management while promoting a security culture.
  • Treat all individuals with dignity, professionalism, and kindness.
  • Align professional goals, objectives, and performance with the College's strategic goals.
  • Maintain excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Comply with established policies, procedures, codes of conduct, and health and safety requirements.
  • Complete required federal, state, institutional, and departmental training.
  • Engage in a planned program of professional development and maintain skills and knowledge relevant to the position, technology industry, operational requirements, and industry trends.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
