Forward Deployed Engineers embed with customers where complexity is high, performance is required, delivery is urgent, and ambiguity is the norm. You will understand customer needs, scope work, prove feasibility, structure delivery, and measurable value. Success means reaching outcomes. Travel up to 50% is required.
Success in this role means owning the delivery state across workstreams. You will keep up the quality bar, deliver at a high pace, and help OutSystems improve through execution.
You’ll own each stage of the AI Agent building process. This can include:
Working with a customer’s executive team to define their AI roadmap
Collaborating with multiple stakeholders to design a new product feature
Writing and testing prompt logic for a specific use case
You’ll partner closely with every team at OutSystems: Product Management, R&D, Solution Architecture, Customer Success, Product Support, Professional Services, and across the leadership team. You’ll become a key source of customer insight, guiding our long-term product roadmap.
Main Responsibilities
This role is for someone who dives deep into complex business problems, builds elegant solutions and then scales them out to millions of users. You will:
Scope and Discover: Work with the customer to understand their business challenges, define the problem, and set a clear, actionable scope for the project.
Embed deeply within strategic customers to understand their business challenges and serve as a strategic advisor to their AI roadmap
Rapid Prototype and Iteration: Quickly building a proof-of-concept, often side-by-side with the end-user, and iterating on the solution based on live feedback.
Optimize and Harden: Once a prototype proves its value, the FDE transitions to a more rigorous engineering mindset, focusing on making the system robust, scalable, and reliable for a production environment.
Deploy and Transfer Knowledge: Deploying the final solution and training the customer's team on how to use and maintain it.
Ensure long-term feedback loops — influence feature development based on real customer needs by providing ongoing advisory support and channeling insights back to the core product teams.
Represent OutSystems externally — working closely with customers and prospects, participating in key deployments.
Core Requirements
Technical Requirements:
Strong Engineering Skills: from full stack development, using OutSystems visual development, to API integration and Data Engineer, we need you to be proficient across our technology stack
System Design: By designing and architect complex, data-intensive systems you must be able to decompose a high-level business problem into a concrete technical solution
Specialized Knowledge (for AI/ML): Proficiency in deploying and optimizing large language models (LLMs) and other AI systems. This includes knowledge of vector databases, model performance optimization, and building custom solutions that leverage APIs.
Rapid Prototyping: You must have a "bias for action" and quickly build a minimum viable solution, get immediate feedback, and iterate in real-time.
Have 5+ years of relevant experience (e.g., product manager, engagement manager, consultant, founder, technical account manager, etc.)
Computer Science, Engineering, or Math degree (or equivalent technical experience) is a plus.
Customer & Behavioral Requirements:
Customer-Facing: you will work directly with the customer, often on-site or in constant communication. We expect you to be an excellent communicator, capable of translating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and understanding the customer's business needs
Empathy & Business Acumen: have the ability to deeply understand the customer's world
Ownership and Autonomy: we expect you to own projects from conception to delivery, making critical decisions and navigating obstacles
Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where you shape solutions as much as you implement them.
Problem Solving & Critical Thinking: possess the ability to make fast, sound decisions under immense pressure, often with incomplete information
Stakeholders Management & Team Work Mindset: A key responsibility is to act as a conduit between the customer and the internal teams, mainly product and engineering. We expect you to gather field feedback, identify reusable patterns, and advocate for features that would improve the core product for all customers.
