Requirements
  • Typically 6+ years of research experience, with a track record of independently leading ambiguous product or service research.
  • Experience getting close to real workflows and understanding the difference between how a process is supposed to work and how it works in practice.
  • High agency in owning the path to an answer and finding the people, evidence, access, or workaround needed to keep moving.
  • Ability to work comfortably with ambiguity and speed when questions are messy, timelines are short, or evidence is incomplete.
  • Ability to use artificial intelligence proactively with sound judgment about when to trust, verify, or step outside the tool.
  • Discipline in making precise claims about what evidence does and does not support, including meaningful uncertainty.
  • Ability to study one workflow while maintaining awareness of the larger surrounding system.
  • Strong research judgment and ability to choose an approach based on the question rather than a preferred method.
  • Strong interviewing, observation, synthesis, and communication skills, with the ability to make complicated systems and evidence understandable without losing important nuance.
  • Experience influencing decisions across Product, Design, and operational teams, and comfort working across qualitative, quantitative, behavioral, and operational evidence.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely with reliable internet access and a suitable environment for interviews and moderated research sessions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal teams, prescriber offices, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to observe and work alongside care, pharmacy, and fulfillment teams on-site in operational environments.
  • Ability to travel regularly to Gifthealth's Columbus, Ohio operations for on-site research.
Responsibilities
  • Own research across internal care and case-management workflows, pharmacy operations, prescriber experiences, and field-facing products.
  • Independently turn ambiguous product and operational problems into clear research questions and determine what evidence is needed to answer them.
  • Use interviews, observation, contextual and field research, usability testing, and other appropriate methods, including on-site research with Gifthealth teams in Columbus.
  • Partner with Product and Design early enough for research to shape the problem and direction, rather than only evaluating a proposed solution.
  • Connect firsthand research with operational and quantitative evidence to distinguish symptoms from underlying causes.
  • Synthesize evidence across tools and workflows to identify larger patterns, problems, and opportunities that no single product surface reveals.
  • Build ongoing relationships in relevant areas to surface important questions before they become urgent requests.
  • Work closely with Operations teams and other partners across the company.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with contextual inquiry, ethnographic research, service design, or field research.
  • Experience researching internal tools, complex workflows, or products spanning digital and offline interactions.
  • Experience in complex or regulated environments.
  • Healthcare, pharmacy, or patient-access experience.
