Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 12 years of relevant work experience, 10 years of relevant work experience with a Master's degree or 8 years of relevant work experience with a PhD.
  • Extensive Electrical Engineering background with an understanding of analog and digital electronics, power systems, Command and Data Handling, Signal Integrity, and Grounding schema
  • Technical experience in systems engineering and integration
  • Hands-on mentality and a passion for fast-paced environments
  • Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain SCI
Responsibilities
  • Develops and evaluates flight-vehicle electrical system architecture alternatives in concert with the broader systems engineering effort to select an electrical-system architecture that meets the customer’s needs.
  • Drives open design to completion and solves design issues (e.g. propose solutions, support mass reduction initiatives).
  • Performs electrically focused requirement analysis and decomposition as part of the systems engineering translation of customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Performs analyses to evaluate all levels of the system to ensure a cohesive electrical-system solution throughout the development lifecycle (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal).
  • Manages the internal & external flight-vehicle electrical interfaces (such as data, power, RF) and develops the corresponding system-level interconnect/block diagrams, grounding diagrams, electrical schematics and global connectivity list for the flight vehicle.
  • Oversees the technical planning, design integration, product integration, verification, and validation efforts for the electrical-system elements throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Influences the electrical-system design to facilitate electrical testing at the component, subsystem, and flight-vehicle levels, with the aim to enable automated testing where applicable.
  • Performs electrical interface compatibility verifications (e.g. check component external interfaces compatibility including interconnecting harness, sneak circuit analysis).
  • Performs power management verifications - analyses and documentation (e.g. voltage drop, round trip resistance, impedance, power stability, circuit protection, electrical load analysis).
  • Development system-level electrical verification (e.g. method, objective, event, activity, success criteria, author test plan).
  • Reviews suppliers 'as-planned', 'as-designed', and 'as-built' documentation (e.g. interface control document, derating analysis, worst case analysis, qualification test plan and procedure, acceptance test plan and procedure, test report).
  • Conducts characterization and risk reduction tests (e.g. evaluate test methods).
  • Manages hardware command and telemetry implementation (e.g. develop and coordinate calibration and conversion curves for analog telemetry in coordination subsystem engineers, verify electrical/software implementation).
  • Verifies electrical connectivity implementation (e.g. verify electrical harness implementation, safety-critical circuit segregation, support peer-reviews).
  • Supports physical layer verification (e.g. signal integrity).
  • Contributes to assembly integration and test activities (e.g. harness integration and testing, electrical test requirements development, anomaly investigations/resolutions).
  • Documents verification activities (e.g. review test artifact, author test report, prepare verification closure notice).
  • Identifies electrical systems risks, develops risk mitigation plans for selected risks, and implements mitigations.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with team members from multiple subsystems and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to achieve integrated solutions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of power converter topologies, micro-grid, grid-connected power electronics, grid-connected batteries
  • Knowledge of complex system interfacing, signal integrity, power loss
  • Knowledge of component to space vehicle electrical system grounding schema, isolation, ground loops and characterization, power quality and EMI/EMC testing
  • Understanding of switching waveforms, semi-conductor losses and experience with loss modeling
  • Experienced with data bus (Ethernet, SpaceWire, RS-422, RS-485, MIL-STD-1553) and troubleshooting
  • Experienced with signal acquisition (filtering, Analog to Digital Converter)
  • Experience with space-vehicle RF subsystem and RF/electrical interfaces with the rest of the system
  • Familiarity with functional specification, state machines, and FMEA (Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis)
  • Model-based design and test background (e.g. Simulink, SPICE, AMESim, Saber, LabView)
  • Experience in System Modeling Language (SysML) using Cameo or other system modeling tools
  • Development and operations of hardware-in-the-loop simulators, conducting testing and troubleshooting of hardware and software interfaces
  • Experience on prime integrated systems (not just component/subsystem)
  • Full program lifecycle experience (requirements through integration/test/verification)
  • Experience in electrical manufacturing (e.g. board, unit, harness)
  • Current or active TS/SCI Clearance
