Requirements
  • Education: B.S. in Electrical, Computer, or Biomedical Engineering or related discipline; M.S. in Engineering preferred
  • Licenses/ Certifications: ASQ CQE / CRE (preferred, not required)
  • Experience: 8+ years in medical device or related industry with a B.S. degree OR 6+ years in medical device or related industry with a M.S. degree
  • Understanding the impact of regulatory requirements (eg. GMP’s, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, IEC 60601, MDD / MDR, and NMPA) on Smith + Nephew’s products
  • Ability to make sound decisions with attention to details
  • Must be able to provide and implement solutions to quality problems
  • Ability to plan and schedule multiple projects and tasks
  • Excellent oral / written communication skills (GDP knowledge critical)
  • MS Office and MS Excel software proficiency
  • Equipment proficiency preferred with Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, and Digital Multimeters
  • Proficiency with Requirement management tools (such as Jama or Cockpit)
  • Proficiency with Defect tracking tools (such as Jira)
  • C / Python programming languages
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality leadership to new product development project and/or sustaining project teams as the Quality Engineering representative on projects requiring FDA 510k, CE Mark, and international regulatory approval. Lead efforts to develop verification and validation test methods and procedures to ensure that embedded software, analog and digital electronic circuits, and support hardware used within instrument products meet the required specifications/standards and that the safety and reliability of products are established.
  • Generate/approve/manage software and design verifications, design validations, usability / human factors, reliability testing, process validations, supplier qualifications, test methods, capability studies, and risk management documentation to support the product Design History File (DHF). Interface with R&D and manufacturing engineers to identify and resolve defects and product quality issues.
  • Lead project cross-functional communication of status and deliverables towards product development milestones and submission filings, including design reviews, risk management, requirements and verification traceability.
  • Ensure compliance to product specific standards, cGMP, QSR, US FDA, ISO, IEC, UL, EN, MDD / MDR, and NMPA requirements. Ensure that all responsibilities within the scope of this job comply with the scope of the Quality System.
  • Provide Quality Management System support for the local site(s) as needed.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance for other engineers on projects and the Smith + Nephew Quality System

Smith & Nephew reports $6.2B revenue with 5.3% growth and 53% jump in free cash flow

Smith & Nephew reported strong full-year 2025 results, with revenue of $6.2 billion representing 5.3% underlying growth and 6.1% reported growth. Fourth-quarter revenue reached $1.7 billion, growing 6.2% on an underlying basis. The medical device company achieved 160 basis points of margin expansion, with trading profit of $1.2 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $1.02, up 21%. Free cash flow increased 52.5% year-on-year to $840 million, enabling completion of a $500 million share buyback programme. Innovation drove over 60% of growth, with products launched in the past five years delivering double-digit growth across all business units. For 2026, the company expects 6% organic revenue growth and 8% trading profit growth to around $1.3 billion, though it faces headwinds from Chinese pricing reforms and US reimbursement changes.

Smith+Nephew acquires Integrity Orthopaedics for $225M plus $225M in performance payments

Smith+Nephew has acquired Integrity Orthopaedics for an initial $225 million cash payment, plus up to $225 million in performance-based payments over five years. The deal strengthens Smith+Nephew's sports medicine portfolio with the Tendon Seam rotator cuff repair technology. Founded in 2020, Integrity Orthopaedics developed the innovative system to address high failure rates in traditional rotator cuff repairs. The technology uses patented micro-anchors and continuous suture designed to deliver stronger repairs and lower re-tear rates. Early clinical results show reduced pain and shorter recovery times. The rotator cuff repair market performs approximately 500,000 procedures annually in the US, valued at $875 million. The acquisition, expected to close by end of January 2026, will be financed from existing cash facilities and is expected to be accretive to trading profit margin by 2028.
