Requirements
  • The candidate must have 3-5+ years of experience in full-stack or backend, product-focused software engineering.
  • The candidate must be proficient in React, Node, TypeScript, and Python.
  • The candidate must have real-world experience developing and deploying applications powered by Language Learning Models.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of what works and what does not work when developing and deploying Language Learning Model applications.
  • The candidate must have strong intuition for improving the performance and output quality of Language Learning Model systems.
  • The candidate must have experience with Language Model Operations tools, including vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation, and prompt operations.
  • The candidate must be able to think broadly and cross-functionally about innovative Language Learning Model-powered capabilities and product experiences.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and build at a high velocity.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy Language Learning Model-powered language learning products across the full stack.
  • Enhance the quality and performance of existing artificial intelligence-powered features within Speak.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Applied Machine Learning, Product, Design, and Content teams.
  • Refine the process for building Language Learning Model applications, including prompting best practices, experimentation and evaluation, Language Model Operations, and quality and performance measurement.
  • Scale existing product features to many more users and languages.

Speak provides an AI-powered mobile app for practicing English through realistic, simulated conversations without a live tutor. Users interact with the app to engage in everyday scenarios, and the AI analyzes responses to offer immediate feedback and personalized learning paths. The product operates on a subscription model with multiple tiers, plus potential in-app purchases or premium features, enabling users to learn at their own pace and schedule. What sets Speak apart from competitors is its ability to reproduce natural conversational practice through advanced AI combined with an easy-to-use mobile interface, removing the need for live tutoring. Speak’s goal is to make English learning more accessible and efficient for students and professionals around the world by providing flexible, on-demand practice anytime, anywhere.

Speak secures Series A funding from Altman

Sam Altman has invested in various sectors including AI, energy, anti-aging, and edtech. He participated in Series B funding for Slope, a B2B payment automation platform, and Wrap, a coding assistant tool. In 2019, he signed a letter of intent to invest $51 million in Rain AI's chip through OpenAI.
