Requirements
- MD or equivalent degree required
- 15+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with experience in relevant disease areas for Vedanta being preferred
- Launch experience required; experience leading transformation at a start-up biopharma company preparing for a first launch desired
- Outstanding record of accomplishment in building and leading Medical Strategy, Evidence Generation, Medical Excellence Capabilities, and Field Operations
- Knowledgeable about reimbursement dynamics and a record of success working with Market Access leaders to unlock patient access to therapy
- Proven ability to work effectively and compliantly with cross-functional strategic partners to optimize commercial success
- Effective communicator who maintains transparency with both internal and external stakeholders, with excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated comfort with uncertainty, ability to exercise sound judgment and determine appropriate action where precedent may not exist, and openness to new ideas and approaches to adapt to the rapidly evolving marketplace
- A hands-on leader who is unafraid to roll up their sleeves and get into the work, who operates with creativity and resilience, and enables their team through delegation and empowerment
- Knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, and norms that govern high impact / high integrity Medical Operations
- Ability to travel across US and EU up to 30% of the time
Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the Medical Affairs function including development of an organizational vision and a capability scaling plan that aligns with corporate values and priorities
- Develop an integrated Medical Affairs strategy and operating plan that optimizes patient access and outcomes and aligns with relevant functions (e.g. R&D, Market Access) and corporate priorities
- Design and build foundational Medical Affairs capabilities including medical communications, medical education, medical strategy/evidence generation, KOL engagement, and patient advocacy. Consider whether these capabilities are best built internally or outsourced, depending on immediate and future needs
- Design and implement infrastructure necessary to optimize scientific exchange with the medical community including platforms that enable access to medical education, publications, investigator-sponsored studies, medical information, medical training, pharmacovigilance, and medical intelligence
- Lead development an integrated real world evidence generation plan in collaboration with external stakeholders and key cross-functional partners that advances understanding of the product profile and addresses key clinical unmet needs
- Credibly represent Vedanta externally to help establish trusted collaboration with key external stakeholders including KOLs, medical societies, patient advocacy groups, payors, and industry groups
- Support development and implementation of reimbursement and access strategies that address unmet medical needs identified by patients, providers, and payors in relevant geographies
- Share and represent external stakeholder perspectives compliantly with cross-functional partners to inform strategic planning
- Maintain accountability for Medical Affairs annual operating budget & expense management
- Ensure organization operates in compliance with all ethical, legal, and regulatory standards
