Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Works with surgical staff in the clinical recovery, preservation, and transportation of tissues
  • Documents all recovery activities completely and accurately
  • Assists with maintaining recovery instruments and equipment
  • Provides training and continuing education to all recovery personnel
  • Orders, stocks, receives, and rotates all durable and consumable supplies
  • Works with other recovery agencies to ensure good working relationships and customer service
  • Ensures compliance with all OSHA and HIPPA protocols
  • Maintains logs on all equipment and schedules monthly cleaning of recovery suite(s)
  • Serves as the primary procurement surgeon for abdominal organs in approximately 50% of cases
  • In conjunction with the Medical Director assumes ultimate responsibility for donor management and the process of donor recovery
  • Works with LAORA staff to ensure the optimal medical care of the donor
  • Facilitates timely progress to recovery and resolves any disagreements among recovery teams
  • Participates in daily activity report calls and weekly organ donor clinical case reviews
  • Documents case participation and judgments in the LAORA electronic medical record
  • Shares on-call responsibility with Medical Director
  • Advises staff regarding the safety and suitability of donor organs
  • Develops competence in the extirpation and intraoperative assessment of abdominal organs for clinical transplantation
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team to develop and achieve performance goals and objectives
  • Participates in education programs as needed
  • Collaborates with LAORA’s Clinical trainer to develop and maintain clinical capabilities of staff
  • Maintains organ preservation lab and restocks equipment, supplies, solutions, and other inventory
