- A Research Engineer II candidate must have a bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience or a master's degree.
- A Research Engineer III candidate must have a bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience or a master's degree with at least 3 years of related experience.
- The degree should be in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or another related field.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance are required.
- Experience with FPGA programming and embedded computing is required.
- Experience developing software in C and/or C++ is required.
- Experience with the Unix/Linux operating system and multithreaded or parallel computing is required.
- Candidates must be able to support occasional travel for meetings and data collections.
- Implement complex algorithms on field-programmable gate arrays.
- Collaborate with algorithm developers to enhance algorithm performance on field-programmable gate arrays.
- Develop software to control sensors and processing nodes.
- Configure processing nodes to optimize performance.
- Participate in laboratory work, including collecting and analyzing sensor data.
- Knowledge of digital signal processing theory and implementation.
- Experience with MATLAB and/or Python.
- Experience with networking hardware, software, and administration.

Valence AI, an emotional intelligence infrastructure company, has raised $5 million in seed funding led by Differential Ventures, with participation from Difference Partners, Willowtree Ventures, Change Paradox Ventures and SRI International. The company has also secured two US patents on identifying emotional state from live speech in real-time conversation using deep learning. Founded by Chloe Duckworth and Shannon Brownlee, Valence AI's Pulse Emotion model analyses live calls and classifies emotional state from speech in real time. The company reports 92% accuracy on internal benchmarks and claims handle time reductions of 30% in production deployments. The funding will support expansion of Pulse's language coverage, deeper integrations across voice AI platforms and new hires. Valence AI's customers include Harte Hanks, CustomerHD and Fortune 500 retailers across healthcare and clinical research environments.
