Bob's Furniture CEO Bill Barton says the affordable furniture retailer is performing strongly despite rising gas prices and geopolitical tensions. The company reported fourth-quarter net sales of $648.8 million, up 8.2% year over year, and significantly beat profit expectations with earnings per share of $0.35 versus analyst estimates of $0.11. Barton told Yahoo Finance that store traffic has increased this month, boosted by tax refund cheques, and that customers are trading up to higher-priced items. The company is attracting consumers earning at least $150,000 annually. Bob's has year-long contracts with freight carriers, providing some protection against surging transportation costs from the Iran conflict. The company operates 205 stores and aims to reach 500 locations, with current expansion focused on North Carolina.
