UBS flips Fed forecast to two rate hikes in 2026 after jobs report

UBS Group revised its Federal Reserve forecast Monday, now expecting two quarter-point rate increases in September and December, reversing its previous prediction of no policy changes in 2026. The shift follows August's 162,000 job additions and 4.1% unemployment rate, pushing the market-implied probability of a September hike to approximately 58% from 52%. The wealth-management and investment-banking firm reported $2.8 billion in net profit for the second quarter, alongside $36 billion in wealth-management net new assets and a 14.4% CET1 capital ratio. UBS's stock remained at $55.38, trading 42.47% above its $38.87 GF Value estimate. The anticipated rate increases would lift the policy rate by 50 basis points, potentially boosting earnings for UBS's $7.3 trillion asset base.
