The Pacific National Exhibition is a non-profit organization that operates Hastings Park in British Columbia and runs four activity streams: two fairs (summer and winter), Playland amusement park, and a busy calendar of concerts, trade shows, film, cultural, and community events, serving over 2 million visitors each year. It generates revenue from its four streams and park maintenance, supporting year-round programming focused on guest experience and community engagement. Unlike many event companies, it combines a large public venue, an amusement park, and ongoing facility management under one nonprofit with a 114-year history. Its goal is to deliver memorable experiences, support the local community, and keep Hastings Park vibrant and well-managed.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Summer Night Concerts 2026 booked Blue Rodeo, Nelly, Zedd, and Sarah McLachlan.
  • The Arch opened with Jann Arden on June 5, 2026, validating demand immediately.
  • FIFA Fan Festival and 75 projected annual shows target 340,000 visitors and new revenue.

What critics are saying

  • PNE owes Vancouver $110 million for the Arch, with repayment tied to event cashflow.
  • 2025 fair attendance fell to 612,404, the lowest non-pandemic turnout this century.
  • If Arch revenues disappoint, Vancouver can face pressure to cut support or restructure debt.

What makes PNE unique

  • June 5, 2026 Freedom Mobile Arch gives PNE Vancouver's first new major venue since 1968.
  • The 10,000-seat covered amphitheatre enables concerts, FIFA Fan Festival screenings, and year-round events.
  • PNE's city-owned fairgrounds and non-profit structure create unusual access to public financing and land.
