Requirements
  • Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (typically completed within the last 0-5 years) in pyrometallurgy, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related scientific background with 0-3 years’ experience.
  • Experience in pyrometallurgy and electrolysis of molten salts or oxides to produce metals.
  • Experience with the physical measurements of molten salts and slags.
  • Skilled in safely handling air sensitive chemicals.
  • Experience with glovebox operation.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and innovation skills.
  • Organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Able to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive.
  • This position requires an on-site presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois five days per week.
Responsibilities
  • Perform technical work related to the development of new processes for metals production and processing.
  • Prepare formal reports, makes presentations, and publish to establish leadership position in R&D for metallization.
