Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Immunology or a closely related discipline, with 4+ years of relevant industry experience and direct, hands-on immunology research experience.
  • Hands-on experience applying targeted lipid nanoparticles for cell-specific delivery to immune cells, including designing targeting strategies and evaluating delivery in primary cells.
  • Working familiarity with lipid nanoparticle formulation for mRNA or other nucleic acid payloads sufficient to collaborate effectively with formulation scientists.
  • Strong understanding of immunology, including lymphocyte biology and in vivo disease models.
  • Ability to independently drive projects while collaborating effectively in a multidisciplinary startup environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to drive timely, fact-based decision-making.
  • Ability to function in a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Legal authorization to work for any employer in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with formulation and chemistry colleagues to design and optimize targeted lipid nanoparticle formulations for mRNA payloads, owning immunological targeting criteria and biological evaluation.
  • Design and execute in vitro and in vivo studies, including humanized models, to evaluate tLNP targeting specificity, biodistribution, potency, and functional payload delivery within the in vivo CAR-Treg platform.
  • Design and apply multiparameter flow cytometry and immunophenotyping assays to characterize tLNP uptake, targeting specificity, transgene expression, and suppressive activity.
  • Develop and apply analytical characterization methods, including dynamic light scattering, encapsulation efficiency, and fluorescence-based assays, to support formulation and conjugation research.
  • Interpret analytical, in vitro, and in vivo data to establish structure-function relationships between tLNP formulation or conjugation attributes and biological performance.
  • Collaborate with platform biology, in vivo pharmacology, and process development colleagues to advance candidate tLNP formulations from discovery through early development and inform manufacturability considerations.
  • Prepare study reports, presentations, and technical documentation summarizing research findings for internal stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging science in immune cell-targeted LNP delivery, Treg and lymphocyte biology, and nucleic acid therapeutics, and contribute new ideas to platform strategy.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required based on business needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with flow cytometry for cell-based assay characterization and evaluation of tLNP uptake and targeting.
  • Expertise designing and executing in vivo mouse studies, including dosing, biodistribution, and efficacy studies.
  • Prior experience with Treg, CAR-T, or other engineered cell therapy and immunotherapy platforms.
  • Experience correlating formulation or conjugation attributes with in vivo performance.

SAN DIEGO, April 04, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tr1X, Inc. (pronounced "Trix"), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing first-in-class allogeneic engineered Treg and CAR-Treg cell therapies with the potential to cure autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, today announced that the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) has awarded the Company an $8 million grant to support its ongoing Phase 1/2a clinical trial of TRX103, an engineered Tr1 Treg cell therapy for use in the prevention of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in blood cancer patients undergoing mismatched stem cell transplants. This award follows a $4 million CIRM grant received by Tr1X in early 2024 for late-stage preclinical research that helped to advance TRX103 to human trials. The TRX103 Phase 1/2a clinical trial is being led by Maria Grazia Roncarolo, MD, co-founder, president and head of RD at Tr1X, with patients enrolling at leading stem cell transplant centers across the country. The trial is designed to treat patients receiving a mismatched or haploidentical transplant with a one-time infusion of TRX103.
