Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, robotics engineering, or a related technical field is required.
  • At least 6 years of experience building hardware and firmware products, including at least 3 years exclusively as a validation engineer, is required.
  • Experience taking at least one hardware product through the full validation cycle from test planning through validation, production sign-off, and real-world deployment is required.
  • Ability to write detailed test cases, design test setups, document results clearly, collaborate closely with engineering teams on bug resolution, and maintain structured test logs and reports is required.
  • Ability to write test automation using Python and Bash and work with robotics tooling to instrument, capture, and reproduce robot behavior in repeatable test sequences is required.
  • Familiarity with ROS or ROS2, robot telemetry, embedded diagnostics, or real-time systems is required.
  • Experience with sensor validation, calibration verification, or surface-quality metrology is required.
  • Experience with reliability testing including HALT/HASS, accelerated life testing, thermal cycling, vibration, and IP rating validation is required.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards including ISO 9001, CE, UL, IPC, or industry-specific safety standards is required.
  • Certification of at least one product against an international compliance standard is required.
  • Technical expertise in quality tools such as SPC, MSA, FMEA, and statistical analysis, together with an understanding of manufacturing and NDT processes, is required.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, and written and verbal communication skills are required for cross-functional collaboration, along with ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
  • Define and own the end-to-end verification and validation strategy for construction robots from component inspection through verification and validation, production release, and post-deployment feedback.
  • Design and execute test protocols for electro-mechanical assemblies, embedded controllers, actuators, sensors, and full-system behavior, including endurance and stress testing.
  • Design adversarial, edge-case, and stress tests covering unexpected environmental conditions, sensor degradation, partial hardware failures, software limitations, edge cases, and long-duration operational stress.
  • Measure and improve the ratio of quality-assurance-discovered defects to field-discovered defects over time.
  • Act as the final quality gate before deployment by owning the release checklist, running or overseeing acceptance tests, and making evidence-based go/no-go decisions against defined criteria.
  • Collaborate with the verification and validation team to execute test plans, track bugs, and ensure product quality while contributing independently to testing and validation activities.
  • Build and enforce regression processes by defining regression tests for fixed bugs and ensuring they run on every subsequent build.
  • Monitor and analyze production quality metrics such as field failures, first-pass yield, and escape rates, and support identification of trends and improvement areas.
  • Maintain quality documentation, test reports, production inspection records, reliability data, deployment checklists, and compliance artefacts.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working on physical artificial intelligence systems where learned models, autonomy software, and hardware converge.
  • Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Certified Reliability Engineer, or IPC certifications.

Origin builds a general-purpose construction robot that automates interior finishing trades such as drywall finishing and painting on real job sites. The AI-powered system can operate power tools and work alongside human crews across multiple trades. It is already deployed on live job sites in New York City with major contractor partners. Its goal is to enable scalable, high-quality, and cost-efficient construction by augmenting or replacing manual interior finishing work with intelligent robotics.

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 caps reached multiple global beverage brands, showing real customer validation.
  • February 2026 Matrix partnership extends 2026 qualification trials and product runs.
  • September 2025 Starlinger equipment financing supports PET sheet production through 2029 repayment.

What critics are saying

  • Origin approved dissolution on August 12, 2026, making employer durability existentially weak.
  • Management cut 59% of staff on May 1, 2026, and John Bissell stepped down.
  • Cash lasts only into Q3 2026 without financing, forcing asset sales or shutdown.

What makes Origin unique

  • Origin still owns PET cap technology with customer-requested designs and qualification data.
  • Matrix Bottling partnership broadens commercialization through U.S. bottling and capping services.
  • HP Embalagens distribution gives Origin access to Nestlé, Ferrero Rocher, and J&J networks.
