  • The candidate must communicate in English with hospital patients regarding diet histories, nutritional assessments, and food allergies.
  • The candidate must calculate ingredient adjustments and basic cleaning-product measurements mathematically.
  • The employee must respond to commonly occurring problems and situations for which standards, procedures, or precedents exist.
  • The employee must stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently lift 25 pounds from floor level to waist level and have close vision and the ability to focus clearly.
Responsibilities
  • Manage scheduling and supervise the daily duties of dietary staff.
  • Function as part of the management team and abide by and enforce all policies.
  • Prepare nutritious and attractive patient meals according to standardized facility menus and in collaboration with and under the direction of the Dietitian.
  • Read and comprehend recipe instructions and adjust ingredient measurements as needed.
  • Ensure that food is served and stored at proper temperatures and follow food-handling and equipment-safety measures, including HACCP regulations and food-handling guidelines.
  • Complete patient diet histories and nutritional evaluations and amend them as appropriate during the patient stay.
  • Record and log temperature measurements and label refrigerated and frozen food items with the required identifying information.
  • Operate food-preparation and cleaning equipment properly within the department.
  • Stock food and supplies in the proper department areas and maintain appropriate emergency stock levels of water and supplies.
  • Assist with developing orders for food and supplies.
  • Implement and comply with all department safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with food preparation for special meals and events.
  • Apply basic infection-control knowledge to prevent food-borne illness during food preparation and delivery.
  • Monitor expiration dates on all food products.
  • Supervise dietary staff, including conducting performance reviews, interviewing, coaching, and taking disciplinary actions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of previous dietary experience preferred.
