Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • The technician must be able to lift 50 pounds, work in hot or steamy environments, work with animals and animal odors, and perform repetitive bending, twisting, and pushing motions.
  • The technician must possess verbal and written communication skills sufficient to read and follow instructions in English.
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily husbandry for laboratory animals, including handling, feeding, watering, changing cages, and monitoring animal health.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with cage washing and autoclave operation.
  • Sanitize designated areas and equipment.
  • Work under the direction of the Animal Care Supervisor, facility manager, and Director of the Division of Comparative Medicine.
  • Interact with animal care technicians, veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and research faculty and staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with animals is desirable.
  • AALAS certification is desirable.
