  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a minimum of six months of supervisory experience.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and reach overhead as needed.
  • Must be CPR certified or willing to become CPR certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Must have or obtain a CNA or Personal Care Aide Certificate with 80-hour Personal Care Aide training within six months of hire.
  • Must have or obtain a 15-hour Medication Aide Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • Must complete the Medication Aide Check-off within 30 days of hire.
  • Must have or obtain Medication Aide Certification within 60 days of completing the Check-off.
  • Must have no substantiated findings on the North Carolina Personnel Registry or Health Care Program and maintain this status during employment.
  • Must have a clear SBI record and maintain this status during employment.
  • Must complete a two-step tuberculin skin test, with the first test before hire and the second within two weeks of the first test.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies or personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
  • Must maintain resident confidentiality and resident rights at all times.
  • Must be available to assist in evacuating residents during emergency situations.
Responsibilities
  • Follow the facility's policies and procedures governing the administration of medications to residents.
  • Note and report medication administration errors.
  • Assist in developing and implementing facility procedures or programs to identify what medication errors are occurring, when, where, and why they occur, and how they can be prevented.
  • Complete and submit required forms, charts, reports, and other administrative documentation.
  • Participate and cooperate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, the Pharmaceutical Services Committee, and other facility committees or programs affecting medication administration and process accuracy.
  • Attend and participate in Care Plan meetings as necessary.
  • Attend and participate in continuing education programs to stay current with professional changes and maintain certification.
  • Follow established safety precautions and report hazardous conditions and equipment.
  • Provide residents with assistance in activities of daily living according to their Care Plans.
  • Help maintain each resident's self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and interact appropriately with residents, families, and visitors.
  • Work with the resident care coordinator and/or Administrator to resolve residents' needs.
  • Find coverage for direct-care staff call-ins.
  • Update the work schedule when call-outs or changes occur.
  • Ensure all staff training is current and documented.
  • Continuously monitor the halls.
  • Conduct staff orientation and supervision during the assigned shift.
  • Assist with orienting new residents to the home.
  • Ensure residents' general well-being at all times.
  • Meet visitors, responsible parties, family members, and social workers and assist with the purpose of their visits.
  • Conduct facility tours as needed.
  • Apply the adult care home's accident, fire safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and emergency procedures.
  • Listen to staff and resident concerns or comments and report issues to the Administrator.
  • Ensure staff respond quickly and appropriately to call lights, alarms, and other signaling devices.
  • Ensure all residents' care plans are appropriately implemented.
  • Ensure medications are stored properly in the building.
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with the nursing department, attending physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
  • Report resident complaints or grievances to the Administrator.
  • Be familiar with residents' bills of rights and assist residents in exercising those rights.
  • Notify the Director immediately of concerns about neglect, abuse, or exploitation by other staff.
  • Follow all regulations required by federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act laws.
  • Perform other duties as required by circumstances.
