Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field is required.
  • Graduate of an A.M.A.-approved Physician Assistant program is required.
  • Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Physician Assistant is required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Current Massachusetts R.N. registration is required.
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate/Physician Assistant Certificate is required.
  • Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner: Qualified in all basic and advanced cardiac support standards as set by the American Heart Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Physician-in-Chief for Medicine, receiving oversight and supervision from a consulting Gastroenterologist, perform diversified duties in being responsible for the care of patients with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, assigned under direction of individual attending Physicians under the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner practice.
  • Provide care to assigned gastroenterology patients utilizing basic knowledge of the pathophysiology of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including but not limited to: Upper and Lower GI bleeding, esophagitis, IBD, pancreatitis, diseases of the biliary tract, diverticulitis and diverticulosis, hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver failure and cancers of the gastrointestinal, hepato-biliary systems, CDAD, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. Knowledge of the uses of antacids, H1 receptor blockers, antibiotics, corticosteroids and immunotherapy, TPN and anti-diarrheal agents.
  • Assist attending Gastroenterologist in providing comprehensive care by making rounds and documenting progress on inpatients on a regularly scheduled basis in conjunction with Gastroenterologist.
  • Act as liaison in coordinating patient care with other services including interfacing with other applicable Physicians. May assist attending Gastroenterologists in providing comprehensive outpatient care within the physician practices from time to time, as needed, due to staffing and/or patient demand.
  • Provide a variety of inpatient and outpatient care and services under the supervision of individually assigned Physician as part of daily activities.
  • Prepare patients for discharge and care for patients in the Outpatient Department.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proven ability to demonstrate maturity, self-confidence and the ability to follow complex patient management plans as directed by the attending physician is preferred.
  • Experience preferred as an Advanced Practice Practitioner.
  • Will consider new APP graduates.
