Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • A valid Class C Driver's License is required.
  • An acceptable driver record is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills are required.
  • The ability to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in picking up and transporting waste safely, according to all federal, state and local rules and regulations.
  • Pick up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day.
  • Ensure that customers have packaged and prepared the waste according to all federal, state and local rules and regulations before transporting.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts daily.
  • Communicate any issues to the Operations Manager, Route Supervisor, or Dispatcher for resolution, including re-routes, adjustments in container sizes, and training.
  • Ensure waste, supplies, and material handling equipment are secured prior to operating the vehicle on a public highway.
  • Respect the property of all residential and commercial customers.
  • Clean the inside and exterior of the trucks on a regular basis and report any observed maintenance problems.
  • Work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while loading and unloading the vehicle.
  • Physically push, pull, and lift bins, including lifting up to 75 pounds frequently, across hills and uneven terrain.
  • Enter and exit the truck frequently, up to 150 times daily, using steps to access an elevated seat.
  • Work standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Continuously stand, walk, see, hear, and smell while performing the job.
  • Continuously perform problem solving, oral and written communication, analytical activities, concentration, interpersonal activities, eye-hand coordination, handling, and wrist motion.
  • Work outdoors around dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet, hot, cold, and noisy conditions, heavy equipment, refuse, traffic, and uneven surfaces.

  • Work experience in the waste, environmental services, energy, or transportation industry.

Athens Services recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in the City of Irwindale. What is the Irwindale MRF? The Irwindale MRF is a state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility operated by Athens Services that processes residential, commercial, and construction waste using advanced AI-powered sorting technology to improve recycling efficiency and sustainability. State-of-the-Art Irwindale MRF facility features and capabilities. This facility processes a mix of material streams including residential and commercial single stream recycling, C&D materials, organic materials, as well as being open to the public for self-hauling. Sitting on 17-acres and powered in part by solar energy, the Silver LEED Irwindale MRF is equipped with AI and advanced sorting technology. Irwindale MRF supports sustainability in the 626 region. "This facility proudly represents Athens Services' commitment to investing in modern technology to help our cities divert waste from landfills and focus more on sustainable practices, "noted Gary Clifford, Senior Executive Vice President, Government Affairs.
