Position Title: Commissioning Project Coordinator

Position Location: Remote - work from anywhere in the United States. Must be located near a major airport.

Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Commissioning Project Coordinator is a senior field leadership role responsible for coordinating on-site commissioning activities, driving execution alignment across project stakeholders, and ensuring successful delivery of commissioning milestones. This position builds upon Commissioning Field Specialist responsibilities and is intended for experienced technical personnel who have demonstrated strong leadership, communication, organizational, and project execution capabilities.

The Commissioning Project Coordinator serves as the primary field coordination resource on assigned projects, bridging the gap between technical execution teams and project management. This role requires a strong technical commissioning background combined with the ability to coordinate daily site activities, manage schedules, facilitate communication between stakeholders, direct field resources, and proactively resolve execution challenges.

The Commissioning Project Coordinator maintains the technical capability to execute inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities when needed; however, the primary focus of the role is coordinating field execution, supporting project delivery, and ensuring alignment between commissioning teams, contractors, vendors, clients, and project leadership.

The Commissioning Project Coordinator will receive limited direction on day-to-day activities and general instruction on new projects or assignments. This role is expected to operate independently, provide field leadership, and coordinate activities across multiple disciplines while supporting successful project outcomes.

This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate On-Site Commissioning Activities and Field Execution (50%)

• Coordinate daily commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, controls, and vendor teams.
• Serve as the primary field coordination point for commissioning execution activities.
• Facilitate communication between project leadership, commissioning teams, contractors, vendors, and clients.
• Coordinate testing schedules, turnover activities, startup support, and commissioning milestones.
• Direct vendors and contractors in execution of commissioning activities.
• Conduct field walks, status reviews, and readiness assessments.
• Support mobilization and onboarding of project personnel.
• Identify execution risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
• Track action items, deficiencies, open issues, and schedule impacts.
• Assist in maintaining project schedule alignment and execution priorities.
• Support resource coordination and workload balancing across field teams.
• Perform hands-on commissioning activities when required to support project success.

Technical Execution and Leadership (20%)

• Perform on-site inspections, validation, functional testing, verification, and troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and controls equipment.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technicians and specialists.
• Support development and execution of commissioning plans, checklists, and test scripts.
• Assist in troubleshooting complex field issues and coordinating resolution efforts.
• Validate testing readiness and commissioning completion requirements.

Documentation, Reporting, and Stakeholder Communication (15%)

• Maintain project status reports, action item logs, issue trackers, and commissioning documentation.
• Coordinate communication of project progress, risks, and schedule impacts.
• Facilitate commissioning meetings and distribute meeting minutes and action items.
• Support turnover documentation and project closeout activities.
• Ensure documentation remains current, accurate, and aligned with project requirements.

Leadership and Team Development (15%)

• Provide day-to-day direction and coordination of commissioning personnel.
• Promote safety, professionalism, and accountability across project teams.
• Assist in developing junior commissioning personnel through mentoring and coaching.
• Foster positive relationships with clients, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL FOR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING)

• Advanced knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and controls system principles.
• Strong understanding of commissioning processes, testing methodologies, and project execution workflows.
• Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management.
• Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.
• Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness in a distraction-free workspace.
• Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
• Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence.

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Up to 75%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states.
• Must be located near a major airport.
• Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
• Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.
• Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
• Potential for international assignments.
• Potential relocation opportunities may exist per project needs.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Must be able to obtain NFPA 70E / OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related discipline

OR

• Two years’ experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical, controls and / or electrical infrastructure

PLUS

• Minimum seven years additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and field leadership responsibilities involving electrical, mechanical, and controls infrastructure

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience serving as Site Lead, Lead Specialist, Lead Technician, or equivalent field leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating vendors, contractors, and commissioning teams.
• Experience serving as a primary field interface with clients and project stakeholders.
• Proven ability to coordinate complex commissioning activities while maintaining schedule and quality objectives.

• Differentiation Between Field Specialist I and Project Coordinator
• Field Specialist I (Level 4) – Technical Path / Field Focused – primarily responsible for hands-on commissioning execution, testing, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and technical leadership.
• Project Coordinator (Level 4) – Execution Coordination Path – primarily responsible for coordinating field activities, managing execution alignment, directing daily site priorities, facilitating communication, tracking project progress, and supporting successful commissioning delivery while maintaining technical competency.
• A Field Specialist may transition into the Project Coordinator role when management determines they have demonstrated strong leadership, communication, organization, stakeholder management, and field coordination capabilities.
