Requirements
  • At least 10 years of relevant substation or general electrical transmission and distribution design experience.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting, including AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code, National Electrical Code, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards.
  • Knowledge of medium-voltage, high-voltage, and extra-high-voltage substation voltages.
  • Ability to apply project schedules to complete tasks within the project budget.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to review project documents and recommend value engineering ideas.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Responsibilities
  • Design and execute high-voltage substation projects in the 4kV–765kV range, emphasizing project safety, cost, quality, and reliability.
  • Generate designs and detailed engineering deliverables under the supervision of the lead engineer and project manager.
  • Complete basic engineering calculations related to design and engineering deliverables.
  • Develop one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control and relay panel layouts and specifications, panel and equipment wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications interfaces, and auxiliary systems including batteries and chargers.
  • Compile complete lists of relay and control materials and quote or order materials as required by customer contracts.
  • Perform complex design assignments under supervisor or engineer direction using standard design principles and practices.
  • Investigate new and existing substation technical drawings and conditions to verify that installation and operations conform to industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Travel to job sites for project assessment and gather notes, photographs, and other data as needed.
  • Communicate and interact with clients.
  • Perform quality reviews of projects completed by peers.
