Copperlane raises $4.1M to develop AI mortgage loan officer 'Penny

Copperlane, a New York City-based developer of an AI-native autonomous mortgage origination platform, has raised $4.1 million in seed funding led by TQ Ventures. Y Combinator, US News Digital Ventures, Mercor and Valon Mortgage also participated. Founded by Athan Zhang and Brianna Lin, Copperlane develops "Penny", an autonomous AI mortgage loan officer that processes borrower assets, credit files and income patterns to generate instant underwriting recommendations and draft compliance explanations. The Y Combinator Winter 2026 company launched its automated processing engine in June 2026. The funds will be used to scale operations, expand the AI loan officer's capabilities and accelerate development of software that shortens pre-approval timelines.
