Requirements
  • Graduation from a Registered Nurse Program.
  • A California Registered Nurse License is required.
  • Active certifications must be effective on the date of hire or transfer unless otherwise indicated.
  • For applicable departments, required certifications include Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and other specialty certifications with department-specific timing requirements.
  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certifications must be American Heart Association certified.
Responsibilities
  • Implement the nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, care and education planning, intervention, evaluation, and plan revision.
  • Provide patient education and advocacy.
  • Practice in compliance with regulatory requirements, including Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation, Title 22, California Department of Public Health regulations, and DNV-GL/NIAHO standards.
  • Provide patient care within the scope of practice and make decisions based on patient acuity and classification.
  • Provide a healing environment, prevent harm, educate patients about their conditions and self-care, communicate abnormal findings, and provide comfort and compassionate care.
  • Assist the charge nurse with planning patient care delivery for the shift.
  • Contribute to unit planning and improvement.
  • Precept and validate competencies for new hires and new procedures.
  • Teach nursing students.
  • Delegate tasks to Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants as indicated.
  • Coordinate the assigned team.
  • Communicate expectations, improvement opportunities, information through the chain of command, and unusual events.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is desired; employees without one upon hire are preferred to obtain it within five years.
  • One year of clinical experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
  • Experience treating orthopedic and stroke patient populations is preferred.
  • For Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory nurses, one year of nursing experience in an acute care setting such as the intensive care unit, stepdown, or emergency room is preferred.
  • For Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory nurses, one or more years of interventional radiology, electrophysiology, or Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory experience is preferred.
  • For sixth-floor Medical-Surgical employees, two years of orthopedic and medical-surgical nursing experience is preferred.
  • Certification in medical-surgical, orthopedic, or another specialty is preferred.
  • Certification in a clinical specialty or management is desired.
