At Remix, we are reprogramming RNA to transform patients’ lives.  RNA processing is the pathway occurring after DNA transcription and controls the production of mature mRNA and protein expression. At Remix Therapeutics we are developing therapies to co-opt and reprogram this pathway to treat undruggable disease. Our proprietary REMaster technology platform enables the identification of compounds that alter RNA processing and correct dysregulation or eliminate deleterious genes altogether. Position Summary:

We seek a highly motivated, experienced medicinal chemist to join our team located in Watertown, MA. As a senior medicinal chemist reporting to the Head of Chemistry, this person will implement the medicinal chemistry strategy, collaborating with a cross-functional team of scientists and leading a team of external synthetic chemists to progress our drug discovery programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and drug discovery and will be driven to succeed within a hypothesis-driven, team-oriented, and interdisciplinary biotech environment. The individual will be expected to contribute to all stages of drug discovery programs, advancing small molecules from hit identification to development candidate selection. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Co-lead interdisciplinary project teams and work with a team of scientists to progress projects from target selection and validation through candidate selection
• Develop and drive medicinal chemistry lead discovery and optimization strategies
• Prioritize medicinal chemistry activities, manage external chemistry CRO and consulting resources, efficiently managing time and resources
• Build, critically interpret and respond to structure activity relationships incorporating multiple optimization parameters such as pharmacological, DMPK and physicochemical properties
• Apply advanced medicinal chemistry principles to design high quality compounds
• Contribute to the execution of IP strategy in collaboration with intellectual property attorneys
• Clearly and effectively communicate medicinal chemistry strategy and provide progress updates to cross-functional project teams and scientific leadership
• Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues in chemistry, computational, biomolecular sciences, ADME, biology and pharmacology
• Contribute to developing our innovative drug discovery platform for modulating RNA processing with small molecules
• Contribute to building the chemistry infrastructure and company culture

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry with a minimum of 10 years of experience working in a pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology setting as a medicinal chemist
• Demonstrated leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery as evidenced by a strong record of scientific accomplishment utilizing cross functional information
• Outstanding synthetic chemistry knowledge and a demonstrated track record of aptitude and problem solving in medicinal chemistry
• Proven ability to manage timelines and resources to drive projects toward key decision criteria; experience in outsourcing and managing CROs
• Keen attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency is required as is the desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and team-focused environment
