Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited or United States Armed Forces Surgical Technologists school and/or program or employed as a Surgical Technologist at a surgical facility on or before July 1, 2013.
Responsibilities
  • Retrieves and review case cart to ensure all physician requested supplies, instruments and equipment are available and sterile for use in case.
  • Opens sterile supplies according to aseptic technique in preparation for the surgical procedure.
  • Scrubs for cases according to established sterile procedures. Changes into operative clothing; wears sterile gown and gloves, and assists surgeons with same.
  • Prepares and maintains a surgical field.
  • Assembles equipment and instrumentation based on the surgical procedure.
  • Assists in surgical procedure, anticipating, planning for and responding to the needs of the patient, surgeon and other team members.
  • Efficiently disassembles sterile field and instrumentation in preparation for decontamination.
  • Performs complete and accurate counting procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes and reduce patient harm.
  • Moving patients and transferring patients to and from stretchers and beds.
  • Assist the surgical team by positioning the patient and retracting tissue and other bodily parts, as directed.
  • Appropriately follows the chain of command and adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff and procedures. Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.
