Requirements
  • A Diploma of Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
  • An active Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support or cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required per policy.
  • The nurse must be able to position or transfer an average adult patient, perform other required patient care duties, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • The nurse must be able to perform difficult manipulative skills such as intravenous insertion and intramuscular injections.
  • The role involves exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, contagious diseases, radioactive materials, and other potentially hazardous materials.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room for each procedure.
  • Bring patients into the operating room and position them for surgery.
  • Maintain charting and care for patients during the intra-operative phase.
  • Act as the liaison between the family and surgeon, including notifying the family when the first incision has been made and providing updates every couple of hours.
  • Update charting and paperwork during surgery.
  • Obtain supplies as needed and administer medications to the sterile field.
  • Delegate, supervise, and provide nursing care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process.
  • Provide age-appropriate care.
  • Participate in research when appropriate and incorporate research findings into evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Contribute to quality improvement processes.
  • Adhere to Memorial's Mission, Vision, and Values; the Nursing Division Mission, Vision, and Philosophy; the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics; and the Illinois Nursing Act.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
