Requirements
  • Current New Hampshire LNA license is required.
  • Basic Life Support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator certification are required.
  • The employee must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the position's tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and frequent lifting or carrying of up to 35 pounds and occasional lifting or carrying of up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must maintain current licenses and required certifications.
  • The employee must complete all assigned annual competencies by their due dates.
  • The employee must maintain adequate patient-care hours for licensure.
Responsibilities
  • Render nursing care to patients within an assigned hospital unit in support of medical care as directed by medical staff, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses.
  • Practice according to American Nurses Association guidelines adopted by the Nursing Division and adhere to the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act.
  • Perform patient-care activities and related services necessary to address patients' personal needs and comfort.
  • Document patient care in the Electronic Health Record, including vital signs, intake, output, mobility, pain, skin abnormalities, and relevant patient or visitor interactions.
  • Report unusual findings or changes in patient condition to the primary or charge registered nurse.
  • Complete bedside shift handoff reports routinely and independently.
  • Answer call lights and determine patients' needs in a timely manner.
  • Perform bladder scans, electrocardiograms, continuous passive motion procedures, cold therapy, and other appropriate medical procedures after completing the applicable competencies.
  • Bathe patients daily and assist with personal hygiene.
  • Encourage and assist patients with routine ambulation and mobility unless otherwise ordered, and document activity in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Serve and collect food trays, assist patients with intake, and provide between-meal nourishment.
  • Collect urine and fecal occult samples for testing.
  • Assist with specialty beds and mattresses.
  • Assist with skin and wound care under the direction of a nurse.
  • Provide information appropriately and sensitively based on the situation and individual and organizational concerns.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for behavioral health patients through one-to-one observation, constant observation, and continuous visual remote monitoring after completing the applicable competencies.
  • Perform continuous visual monitoring initiated by the primary registered nurse after completing assigned equipment and role-responsibility competencies.
  • Explain nursing care to involve patients in their care.
  • Rotate among shifts or departments to meet patient-care staffing needs.
  • Assist with the Hospital Unit Coordinator role as necessary.
  • Prepare equipment and assist nursing staff during patient treatments and examinations.
  • Use equipment, safety protocols, and policies when providing care and transporting patients.
  • Apply fall-prevention measures for patients assessed by the registered nurse as high fall risk and communicate concerns to the registered nurse and the incoming LNA.
  • Use AIDET when interacting with patients and assist with hourly rounding.
  • Maintain adequate patient-care hours for licensure.
  • Avoid unauthorized overtime and manage Earned Time Off according to policy.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role.
Desired Qualifications
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained before completing orientation.
  • High school graduation or GED is preferred.
