Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a sonographer, or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification, or Cardiovascular Credentialing International certification, is required upon hire.
  • For Radiology, an American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography credential is required upon hire, preferably in Abdomen or Obstetrics and Gynecology; if a vascular credential is required at the site, an ARDMS Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer credential must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • For Maternal Fetal Medicine, an ARDMS Obstetrics and Gynecology credential is required upon hire.
  • For Adult Echocardiography, ARDMS Adult Echocardiography certification is required within six months of hire.
  • For Vascular, an ARDMS Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer credential is required upon hire.
  • Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete the steps required to advance to level 2 within 24 months.
  • Graduation from a specialty training program in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The role requires Registered Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, or Sonography certification as applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure the correct order is obtained, the patient is properly identified and prepared for the examination, and the clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Use the appropriate imaging protocol and optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety and care and applying the principle of As Low as Reasonably Achievable.
  • Prepare and administer medications through new or existing vascular access sites when prescribed by a licensed practitioner, and document those activities.
  • Evaluate images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality, verify archival storage or data transfer, and post-process data when applicable.
  • Educate and monitor students and other healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with a licensed practitioner during sonographic interventional procedures.
  • Ensure equipment parameters for diagnostic and interventional procedures meet optimal technical and administrative quality standards.
  • Perform diagnostic and interventional sonographic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner or during appropriate educational activities.
  • Review symptoms and medical history independently to determine the correct examination for the patient.
  • Evaluate procedure orders and requests to ensure correct scheduling of patient examinations.
  • Perform noninvasive vascular laboratory tests when applicable.
  • Provide preliminary interpretation of test results when applicable, including disease level, incidental findings, outliers, contradictory or unexpected results, need for additional testing, urgency of care, and reporting to the provider.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field of study is preferred.
  • At least one year of related work experience is preferred.
  • For Pediatric Echocardiography, ARDMS Adult Echocardiography certification is preferred.
