Requirements
  • A high school education or equivalent is required.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours is required.
  • The candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The candidate must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver's license and be able to safely drive a disaster vehicle at any time.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • The candidate must be able to utilize social media.
  • The candidate must understand and appreciate the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • The candidate must complete core Emergency Disaster Services trainings and certifications required for the duties, including ServSafe Manager and other Emergency Disaster Services and Federal Emergency Management Agency courses.
  • The candidate must remain up to date with Keep SAfe Trainings.
Responsibilities
  • Respond to all emergencies in the assigned area.
  • Prepare and serve bulk meals and other resources from Emergency Disaster Services vehicles.
  • Receive emergency notifications at all times while on call.
  • Represent the Emergency Disaster Services Department on scene and collaborate with partnering agencies, including the fire department, Office of Emergency Management, and Red Cross.
  • Contact and coordinate with local Emergency Disaster Services volunteers, the Emergency Disaster Services Director, and Deputy Director to support response as needed.
  • Participate in divisional Emergency Disaster Services meetings, including quarterly Operations calls, Emergency Disaster Services Commissions, and tri-divisional planning sessions, and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Help ensure that the canteen and response equipment are always ready.
  • Drive larger vehicles and trucks and haul trailers.
  • Assist with deploying equipment and personnel during major responses.
  • Provide updates, run sheets, response stories, and media information, including pictures, in a timely manner.
  • Provide basic Emergency Disaster Services training to new volunteers supporting Mass Bay responses.
  • Serve on call to assist the Emergency Disaster Services Director, Deputy Director, and primary staff with secondary support coverage.
  • Assist with special events and special projects when necessary.
  • Wear the appropriate Emergency Disaster Services uniform and identification while on duty.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Emergency Disaster Services or emergency management training is preferred.
