Requirements
  • Minimum five years of general hospital business office billing and collections experience, including at least two years of Manager-level experience.
  • A proficient understanding of medical office or medical terminology training.
  • Understanding of critical access hospital business office operations.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve complex billing issues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write to perform calculations and prepare reports with supporting documentation.
  • Hands-on experience across patient financial services areas of the revenue cycle and understanding of the entire revenue cycle.
  • Understanding of revenue cycle management key performance indicators and accounts receivable concepts to increase cash and reduce accounts receivable.
  • Understanding of hospital, clinic, and business office operations.
  • Proficiency in billing software, electronic health record systems, and data analysis tools.
  • Expertise in billing and collections involving Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and self-pay accounts.
  • Ability to motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, and promote collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, insurance companies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manual dexterity to enter and retrieve computer data, ability to sit for long periods, and ability to move moderately heavy objects.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of staff supervised on site or remotely for a client hospital.
  • Focus team efforts and ensure diligent team follow-up.
  • Answer relevant questions, set goals, allocate resources, monitor and trend accounts receivable and staff accountability.
  • Train staff hands-on and monitor outstanding patient accounts, billing errors, and claim denials.
  • Conduct weekly team meetings, drive revenue cycle performance and continued training, and maintain and track standard operating procedures and process improvements.
  • Review patient accounts for accuracy of billing codes, patient demographics, and insurance information.
  • Implement strategies to improve collection rates and reduce outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Follow up on complex payer trends and communicate volumes, issues, and payer-specific guidelines to management.
  • Generate team performance reports, analyze key metrics, identify issues, develop solutions, and escalate trends to management.
  • Monitor team performance against collection, denial-reduction, and productivity goals.
  • Identify improvement areas and implement action plans for payer and denial challenges.
  • Respond to patient-account inquiries while safeguarding confidential information.
  • Oversee daily billing and collections for Medicare, Medicaid, workers’ compensation, Blue Cross Blue Shield, health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, commercial insurance, and self-pay accounts.
  • Interpret and follow up on insurance contracts concerning rates, discounts, and filing instructions.
  • Apply federal and state credit collection regulations and guidelines.
  • Handle human resources matters including new-hire orientation, staffing coverage, time-off approvals, timecards, counseling, discipline, and evaluations.
  • Monitor staff productivity.
  • Coordinate agendas and present findings on scheduled conference calls.
  • Research and review patient accounts, prepare and submit company and client reports on time.
  • Travel to client sites less than 10% of the time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional training in medical billing or healthcare administration.
  • Customer service and problem-solving experience involving patient, insurance, and internal inquiries.
  • CPSI experience.
