Requirements
- Twelve months of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
- Hold Texas registered nurse licensure or compact licensure, with a permanent Texas license required within 60 days if establishing Texas residency.
- Hold Basic Life Support certification or instructor status from the American Heart Association.
- Hold Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification or instructor status from the American Heart Association.
- Hold Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification or instructor status from the American Heart Association.
- Hold National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification from the American Heart Association.
- Hold Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification or instructor status from the Crisis Prevention Institute.

Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, including patients with varied and complex needs.
- Conduct nursing assessments, assist with examinations and treatment, and maintain medical records.
- Communicate and collaborate with physicians and the interprofessional healthcare team to coordinate compassionate, efficient, quality care and achieve treatment outcomes.
- Use technology, administer medications, perform procedures, and manage emergencies while providing direct patient care.
- Act as a patient and family advocate to monitor and maintain patient rights.
- Participate in or lead unit and shared-governance initiatives.
- Serve as a charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees when assigned.
- Contribute to service-line or hospital-wide initiatives in partnership with management.
- Use therapeutic communication, including active listening and teaching, to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team and collaborate on plans of care.
- Contribute to teamwork by monitoring overall unit acuity, offering assistance, responding to requests for assistance, and fostering healthy workplace relationships.
- Seek and provide guidance to the interprofessional healthcare team and apply feedback to improve patient outcomes.
- Implement staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes, including coaching, mentoring, and preceptorship of staff and students.
- Follow patient- and family-centered care standards and practice consistently with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
- Develop, update, and communicate plans of care, including discharge plans, in partnership with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team using the nursing process.
- Prioritize care according to patient needs, abilities, and preferences.
- Advocate for patients and families to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns using appropriate resources.
- Provide patient teaching based on learning needs, plan for care after discharge, evaluate comprehension, and adapt teaching methods.
- Support patient-satisfaction improvement through peer-to-peer accountability to service standards.
- Follow standards of care related to the nursing process, regulatory requirements, and professional practice.
- Identify practice-improvement opportunities using research-based evidence to achieve core-measure and patient-safety outcomes with accurate documentation.
- Provide and modify care for complex patients and coordinate care with the interprofessional team based on patient-condition evaluations and accurate documentation.
- Improve quality and safety through peer-to-peer accountability, reporting near misses, and collaborating with the interprofessional healthcare team.
- Manage time independently, document care promptly, minimize incidental overtime, and prioritize daily tasks.
- Provide input into unit resource utilization, including capital and operational budget needs.
- Contribute to department financial targets by decreasing length of stay and optimizing efficiency.
- Identify and present opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and improvement in patient care or unit operations using evidence-based practice literature.
- Offer innovative solutions through evidence-based practice, performance-improvement projects, and shared-governance activities.
- Champion new care pathways or service-line implementations and identify trends requiring practice changes.
- Research proposed changes and present options to shared governance and leadership.
Desired Qualifications
