Requirements
  • An associate degree in a mechanical or science field, an electrical certification or license, or completion of an apprenticeship as an electrician is required.
  • A valid Illinois driver's license is required, and the employee must be an acceptable driver under the Memorial Health System Fleet Safety Policy; a five-year motor vehicle record will be required.
  • Four years of commercial electrician experience is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical safety and theory, troubleshooting, circuits, and installation is required.
  • The ability to read, understand, and apply complex building codes such as NFPA and Joint Commission requirements is required.
  • The ability to apply electrical theory and read and understand blueprints and other technical specifications is required.
  • The employee must provide the hand tools needed to perform electrical work.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.
  • The ability to distinguish between red, black, blue, gray, white, and green is required.
Responsibilities
  • Establish work priorities and organize and coordinate activities involving the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances according to codes and specifications.
  • Resolve difficult wiring and installation problems, determine appropriate repairs for faulty electrical systems and equipment, and complete complex work orders.
  • Plan layouts and install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize material waste, provide access for future maintenance, comply with specifications and local electrical codes, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring.
  • Prepare sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams and blueprints, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before walls, ceilings, and flooring are completed.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using a hacksaw, pipe-threading machine, and conduit bender, and pull wiring through conduit.
  • Test circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and component safety using a vault ohm meter, megger, and other test equipment.
  • Assist with completing division goals.
  • Coordinate assigned work to meet the needs of customers, patients, and visitors and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Develop efficient and effective work practices that use time and materials efficiently.
  • Know hospital disaster codes and immediately follow proper procedures.
  • Follow safety procedures and policies and maintain cleanliness standards for the medical center and its equipment.
  • Interact with patients and medical center personnel in a courteous, helpful, cooperative, and professional manner and follow the Memorial Medical Center Code of Conduct.
  • Perform other related work as required or requested.
