Requirements
  • A minimum high school diploma and/or associate degree in science is required.
  • Zero to one year of experience working in a laboratory setting is required.
  • High-level computer skills and familiarity with data acquisition software are required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are required.
  • High computer literacy is required.
  • A good conceptual basis in analytical chemistry is required.
  • The ability to perform standard chemical laboratory techniques is required.
  • The role requires technical communication skills, organizational skills, manual dexterity, the ability to distinguish colors, and the ability to stand for prolonged periods.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine testing of client-supplied samples in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Generate, interpret, and manage analytical data.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain analytical instruments.
  • Perform sample login and splitting.
  • Assist chemists with analysis using appropriate techniques, including high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, titration, and gravimetric analysis.
  • Prepare analytical standards.
  • Perform daily balance and temperature verification and monthly pipette verification.
  • Perform sample processing and sample preparation in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Calibrate and maintain analytical instruments.
  • Prepare standards and maintain inventory.
  • Purchase standards and solvents.
  • Maintain analytical and quality records required for accreditation or certification and related to analytical work and instrument maintenance.
  • Submit accurate and timely reports based on analyses.
  • Identify results requiring further investigation or discussion with the department manager or supervisor.
  • Participate in out-of-specification investigations and corrective and preventive action when necessary.
  • Learn new techniques and technologies as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
