Maui Jim's first photochromic sunglasses.

Maui Jim's first photochromic sunglasses. Date posted: 12 April 2026 New Release · Adaptive Lens Technology A New Era of Adaptive Lens Technology Maui Jim has always been known for clarity, colour and performance. But with their latest release, they are stepping into something new. For the first time, Maui Jim has introduced photochromic sunglasses, marking a shift in how their lenses perform in changing light. Designed to adapt as you move between sun and shade, this new technology brings a more seamless way to wear sunglasses day to day. It is a small change in concept, but a big step forward in how sunglasses work. What makes this release different. This is not just another update to an existing lens. It is Maui Jim's first ever photochromic lens, developed to adjust dynamically depending on light conditions. Instead of staying one consistent tint, the lens responds to UV exposure. In bright sunlight it darkens to reduce glare. In lower light or shaded environments, it becomes lighter to maintain clarity. For anyone who spends time outdoors, this means less adjusting, less swapping and a more comfortable experience overall. Introducing the Maui HT photochromic lens. At the centre of this release is the Maui HT lens, built with High Transmission technology. Unlike traditional darker lenses, this design allows more light through when needed, making it especially useful in overcast or shaded conditions. As the light changes, the lens adapts. It moves between medium and higher light reduction depending on exposure, giving you consistent visibility without needing to remove your sunglasses. This is what makes the lens feel more natural. It works with your environment instead of against it. Built on PolarizedPlus2 technology. Even with this new adaptive feature, Maui Jim has not moved away from what they do best. The lenses are still powered by PolarizedPlus2 technology, designed to eliminate 99.9 percent of glare while enhancing colour and contrast. This means you still get the clarity Maui Jim is known for, now combined with a lens that adjusts to changing light. The result is sharper vision, reduced eye strain and a more comfortable viewing experience throughout the day. Designed for real conditions. This new lens technology is introduced through the Ho'okipa Ultra G, an evolution of one of Maui Jim's most recognisable styles. The frame has been updated with a more wraparound fit for better coverage, improved airflow to reduce fogging, and adjustable nose pads and temple tips for comfort. It is designed with movement in mind, making it ideal for: * golf and outdoor sport * driving in changing light * everyday wear across different environments The ability to move between sun and shade without needing to change your sunglasses is where this design really stands out. Why this matters. Photochromic lenses are not new to the eyewear industry, but this is the first time Maui Jim has introduced the technology into their range. That matters because Maui Jim is known for precision and performance. They do not release something unless it meets the standard their lenses are known for. This launch brings together two things people want more of. Adaptability and clarity. Instead of choosing between lighter lenses for low light or darker lenses for bright sun, this offers both in one. A smarter way to wear sunglasses. Maui Jim's first photochromic release is not about changing their identity. It is about evolving it. It keeps everything people already trust about the brand. Clear vision, reduced glare and strong colour contrast. Then adds a layer of adaptability that makes everyday wear easier. For anyone looking for photochromic sunglasses that adjust to light, this is a strong new option to consider. Now Available at BrightEyes Maui Jim's first photochromic release is not just something to read about, it is something you can experience. At BrightEyes, Brighteyes has a selection of the latest Maui Jim photochromic sunglasses now available, including the newly introduced styles built with Maui HT lens technology. Explore the range and find a pair that works with your lifestyle, not against it.
